Ottawa Hearings Office Closure Extended to March 31, 2014

The Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada (IRB) has been notified that the Ottawa hearing rooms will remain available until April 2014. Based on this information, the IRB is taking advantage of the temporary availability of the hearing rooms and will continue to schedule cases for Legacy Refugee Protection Division (RPD) hearings and some Immigration Division (ID) hearings until March 31, 2014.

As previously announced, the closure of the Ottawa hearings office and discontinuation of proceedings in Ottawa was among the cost reduction measures set out in the 2012 Federal Budget that are currently being implemented by the IRB.

Please note that all case-related documents and enquiries should continue to be directed to the Regional Office in Montreal. Given that the IRB’s focus in the coming months will be on inventory reduction in Ottawa, refugee claims referred after December 15, 2012 will continue to be heard in Montreal.
